What do you believe about yourself and your ability to do this? Write it down; then dig deeply to explore if this belief holds true. If not, change it to reflect your inner truth.
Describe your attitude toward making the changes you’ve identified in your action plan. For example, are you pumped and ready to go, fearful, or . . . ?
Describe how you will hold yourself accountable. How will you reward yourself?
There was a time in college when I lost all confidence in my artistic talent. I had a professor who didn’t like my work. His criticism was harsh and I was devastated. I dropped out for a semester. Stopped drawing. Felt like a failure. Got a job waiting tables in one of the local diners. I was miserable, lost, and alone.
After a couple months of wallowing in self-pity, I just “woke up” one day. I missed my art and realized it was my lifeblood. I had to create; I had to draw. I picked up my colored pencils and sketched cartoons. They made me smile.
My dad’s my role model. I remember how upset he’d get when there was a drought. He’d go out to the fields and watch the crops wither on the vine. He’d fret and fume, but then he’d bounce back. The next year, he’d start all over again with a new crop and new optimism. Farming is hard work and Dad was resilient. I learned about determination from him. He’d say, “Life has its ebb and flow. Don’t give in to it when you’re down!”
I think about my dad when I feel discouraged. He’s my inspiration. Sure, I might be in a funk now, but I can dig my way out—nothing’s as bad as losing your whole crop for lack of rain! I’ll line up all my options before making my decision. I want to give myself time to complete a thoughtful search process. I’m ready to forge ahead by tackling one SMART goal at a time until I have my answer. It’s important that I enact my plan. On a scale of 1–5, I’m definitely a 5!
